Modeling and simulation

Goals

Modeling and simulation are important tools for the development of new automotive systems and their validation. The behavior of a new system in normal operation can be analyzed and optimized by simulations. Critical fault conditions can be found reliably and partly with less effort. The use of simulation is appropriate at various points. The simulation focus of the work area on-board systems lies in the following areas:

  • Simulation of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
  • Simulation of single lines, line bundles and shielded cables
  • Simulation of signal integrity of automotive bus systems (LIN, CAN, Flex-Ray ...)
  • Simulation of voltage drop and temperature in on-board networks
  • Simulation of ESD failures

Methods

In the area of modeling and simulation, simulation programs based on conservation laws and field simulators based on Maxwell's equations are used. Standardized modeling languages are used as far as possible, so that an unhindered data exchange is possible.

For the connection between the simulation methods and for the acceleration of calculations, methods for the approximation and reduction of the model order are used.
